CHANNIE AMATO~ LICENSED

THERAPIST

You did it! You are here. The first step towards change is recognizing you need support. Life can present with challenges, obstacles or barriers that can throw you off your course. Looking within, learning self regulation tools and having a safe place to explore your feelings, thoughts and emotions will help guide you back on your course.

Channie Amato, LMFT 94845, is a licensed therapist practicing for over 14 years, provides a holistic, individualistic, collaborative approach to building a sense of self, bettering one's relationships with themselves, and others, and increasing healthy coping strategies i.e., breathing work, mindfulness, to best support client's overall health and wellbeing.

My approach

An eclectic approach, borrowing from different theories to best fit my individual client's needs. From talk therapy to expressive arts therapy to mindfulness and grounding techniques. Channie has training in mindfulness practices, breath work, EMDR, narcissistic abuse, codependency, as well as art therapy. She looks at the person as a whole, acknowledging that the mind, body, and spirit are all intertwined.

My focus

Working with older adolescents to older adults, Channie works with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, challenges in relationships, healing from narcissist abuse, codependency, self-esteem/ self-confidence, relationship with self, grief, bereavement, trauma, PTSD, and pain.

My communication style

Channie provides a non-judgmental, non-critical, warm, and safe environment for her clients to explore and express their true selves. Channie acts as a guide in the client's journey towards self-exploration, helping the client bring light to the multiple routes and help them find their truth.

My journey to mental healthcare

Honestly, I took AP Psych senior year of high school, loved the teacher and the material, and decided to pursue a psychology major in undergrad. Painting, dancing, and expressing myself through expressive means, my love for art and psychology led me to the path of Art Therapy (AT), and I pursued my master's in MFT and AT. Graduating from my master's program in 2010, I completed my hours and licensure while growing my family. As a mother of 3 children, ages 8, 12, and 14, I understand the ins and outs of raising children, while growing my career, marital/ relationship challenges, trying to find balance, and learning the importance of self-love.

My goals for you

Collaborative approach and continuously changing. The goals set at the first session may be different than the goals one has for themselves at follow-up sessions. I allow my client to lead, and invite what feels current and present, as well as what shows up from your past. Think of me as you guide into the mind, and I will allow you to take the lead on how far you'd like to dive

My first session with you

First session, we will get to know each other and see if it feels like a good fit. In therapy, it is important that you like your therapist and have strong rapport and trust, to provide a safe environment to allow the client to do the deep diving into themselves.
